Germany is one of the largest growers of quality hops, China is one of the largest markets for hops. That is why HVG (Hopfenverwertungsgenossenschaft e.G), a German hops- producer cooperative from Bavaria, has started a three-year information campaign about the advantages of German-grown hops. The campaign is co-financed by the European Union.
Together with the German hop-growing associations from Hallertau, Tettnang, Elbe-Saale, and Spalt, the information campaign explains the advantages of European products. Important topics are particularly the high quality of German hops and the labels of the European Union.

The demand for hops in China is on the rise: Germany sold more than 1,000 tons of hop pellets to China in 2015 alone. Hops from Germany fulfill the highest expectations in terms of food safety, quality, and sophisticated food control mechanisms. 100 percent of German hops are grown under the quality regulations of the European Union, and local regions have been granted the EU labels of the protected geographical indication (PGI) and protected designation of origin (PDO). Chinese brewers can use these advantages to offer their customers beer with premium flavor ingredients, certified quality and product traceability down to individual farmers. These hops attributes make all the difference between conventional products from other proveniences and the certified European quality products.

From the diverse spectrum of German hop varieties, classic aroma hops are used to produce very mild and fine aromatic beers for the Chinese market. For the emerging craft beer market in China, special flavor hops from Germany deliver intense and exotic taste experiences, which are ideally suited for the production of unique craft-beers.
